Todd Polich of EarthFoundation.ca engaged with 80+ kids to create the Orcas in the City mural at Sunrise Market. Todd has created numerous murals and has created a new program called the Art of Empowerment. Joji Kumagai, Executive Director of Strathcona Business Improvement Association will join Todd in sharing how mural-making builds community.

  1. What are your experiences in engaging with a group of people to create a visual art piece (mural or other)?
  2. What guidelines do you need to use in engaging with children in a project?
  3. Collaboration among several organizations is a key part of the Orcas in the City project. How would you go about building partnerships/collaborations for a project?

Gallery Gachet is a unique artist-run centre located in Vancouver?s Downtown Eastside. Gachet is a collectively-run exhibition and studio space built to empower participants as artists, administrators and curators. Volunteer coordinator, Anthony Meza-Wilson and Collective member, Kara Lee?will share the story and their own stories.?

  1. What are the challenges in engaging with diversity?
  2. How can volunteers be sensitized to work with marginalized communities?
  3. What are key steps to effectively and meaningfully engaging with volunteers to support community art

Gift Circle ? You?ll be invited to share (and receive) resources through a gift circle.

There will be an art-making ?break? to create heart art from?ivy or other invasive/abundant materials

Come meet fellow art enthusiasts and discuss how experiencing art can promote self-confidence, social justice, acceptance and growth.

Most of the session will be participative aimed at artists and supporters sharing their thoughts.
